Lancaster Bomber in the Trees

We were at a Church Picnic in Hamilton with my family. I heard the unmistakeable sound of four Roll Royce engines coming in low and fast. I got two shots. No fishing through a lens bag looking for a long lens. Really no time. Turn camera on, zoom and shoot. This guy was low. Thoughts of the Dam Busters came to mind. I ran away from the trees and was able to fire one more photo as the bomber pulled up.

What’s not obvious is how fast the bomber was moving. The whole affair took less than fifteen seconds. Another not so obvious fact is bridge cameras are a lot better than the photographic world gives credit for. The aircrew flying this Lanc today were pretty good as well.

About Chris Sorlie

The kids are gone and I'm shooting pictures of all sorts of good things.
