Some ports of call will not allow the cruise ship to approach due to shallow water. In this event the life boats or tenders are used to ferry passengers ashore. High seas can make using a tender a bit of an experience with the small boat falling and rising several feet. The step aboard must be carefully timed. There is a trend to deep water ports with the ship safely secured and passengers free to walk on and off regardless of the weather. You don’t see many pictures of tenders so here we are!
