Mr. Heron’s Other Side

I thought I would put in another Everglades picture because the bird really is beautiful and one doesn’t get to hang around the Everglades all that often. We were taken there in an airboat with a huge converted 8 cylinder engine and a propeller. The tour guides know their boats well I’m sure. This young man drove the boat with gusto! A lot of the trip was conducted at a walking pace but he did “hoof it” for a while. During the high speed stuff he intentionally put the boat into a few skids. While I knew we weren’t in any real danger, had the boat flipped, it would have been early dinnertime for the gators.

Wow, I would love to get this close to a heron! I have heard there are very few in England at the moment, though their numbers may soon grow!
