Trip Of a Lifetime

We have been saving for two years. Sharon loves to cruise. This particular holiday was a repositioning trip. We were on the Carnival Dream, their biggest, newest ship afloat. I guess the deal for me was, as a repositioning cruise, it would cross the Atlantic. People fly across the Atlantic everyday but not all that many people can say they sailed across the ocean. The downside side to this idea was five days on the boat. Nonstop. No ports to visit just lots of food. The up side, in addition to “sailing” bragging rights, was no jet lag. We sail right into New York just like future Americans did eighty years ago. A short flight home – easy breezy.

I figured, as we were traveling quite a distance, we might as well add three extra days in Rome before boarding the ship. I’m very glad we did. We stayed in “The Rex Hotel” in Rome. It was a typical European room. Small, expensive,  but very clean and actually quite charming. I enjoyed it a great deal.

We needed to see Rome and time was an issue. We rented a Vespa! Yes, yes, when in Rome, do as the Roman’s do. I’ve ridden a motorcycle for years but I wasn’t prepared for what was to come. Move over Natalie and Cary!  More to follow.
